World’s Best Rugby Player Maddison Levi Labelled A ‘cheat Code’ After Smashing Records For Australia
Maddison Levi has been described as Australian rugby’s “cheat code” after her remarkable performance helped the women’s World Series champions secure a season-opening victory at the Dubai Sevens.
Levi, recently named the women’s world sevens player of the year, marked the occasion with a record-breaking 15 tries, leading Australia to a thrilling 28-24 win over Olympic champions New Zealand in the final.
However, for the Australians, led by new captain Bella Nasser, Sunday’s triumph – their fifth consecutive win in Dubai – came four months later than expected. This was after their crushing Olympic disappointment in Paris, where they failed to even secure a medal despite being favorites.
“It’s pretty incredible. I’m at a loss for words right now, like I’m on the verge of tears, but also laughing and so happy,” said Nasser. “I’m so proud of the girls.”
Levi’s outstanding performance, capped by a game-winning intercept try in the final, also helped Australia exact revenge with a dominant 39-0 quarter-final victory over Canada, who had surprisingly defeated them in the Olympic semi-finals.
