Ex-Scotland Rugby Star Stuart Hogg Convicted Of Five-year Domestic Abuse Campaign Against Wife
DISGRACED former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg has been found guilty of a five-year campaign of domestic abuse against his estranged wife.
Earlier, we reported that Hogg arrived at court this morning accompanied by his parents, Margaret and John.
The trial was scheduled to last three days at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Sheriff Peter Paterson outlined the charges, to which Hogg, dressed in a navy three-piece suit, responded with a simple “yes.”
While he faced additional charges, the prosecutor accepted his not guilty pleas for those counts.
Hogg is set to return to court next month for sentencing.
Currently playing for French club Montpellier, he appeared in court wearing a poppy and a black protective cover on his left hand.
Originally, he was supposed to go to trial in September but was arrested the day before after fresh allegations and a breach of bail claims emerged.
Hogg was accused of monitoring his estranged wife Gillian’s communications and exerting control over her family life, in violation of section one of the Domestic Abuse Scotland Act.
He missed a previous court appearance last month, with his lawyer stating he had been “excused.”
Prior to today’s proceedings, Hogg had denied all charges.
