“Building Rugby’s Future in Africa: Herbert Mensah on the Key to Long-Term Growth”

Herbert Mensah, the President of Rugby Africa, has stressed the need for greater investment in rugby infrastructure and youth tournaments to help grow the sport across Africa.

Speaking at the Africa Women’s Sevens Tournament, which brought together top rugby nations from across the continent, including South Africa, Tunisia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and others, Mensah emphasized that strong facilities and development programs for young players are key to rugby’s future in Africa.

He explained that one of his goals as president is to encourage more countries to build proper rugby facilities, like the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium, to support the sport’s growth.

Mensah also called on African nations to focus on developing under-18 and under-20 teams, stressing that when players wear their national jerseys, they represent their entire country, not just themselves. He encouraged more investment in age-group tournaments to help players develop and inspire national pride.
