Despite gaining £4 from his Musselburgh success, Ayr Poet continues to be treated positively on his previous form and could do well, while C&D winner Urban Road commands respect on his return from a 199-day layoff having run well in the past.
However, the vote goes ahead PRINCE ACHILLE, who is 3-6 over C&D and 2 pounds lighter than when third in a better race here in May.
It’s worth noting the market support for both newcomers, especially Always Eternal, but some of them already attracted attention in their respective debuts.
Run To My Side did well to finish as close as she did after missing the break in Leicester two weeks ago, but the preference is in favor MU MU LAND, who looked as if that extra furlong would fit when he finished a promising second at Beverley last month.
Brighton winner Mini Mac remains open to further improvement on his Nursery/AW debut, while Catterick winner Jachin would have a good chance if he continues his progress at AW.
The best-in-class substitute is another candidate for the shortlist, as is Sure And Stedfast, given his sire’s record here, but is the choice AL WASEELAwho appears to be making steady progress and won comfortably in Yarmouth two weeks ago.
The previously unreleased ‘Midnight’s Dream’ may have more to offer, while Jez Bomb could also have a role to play if he reproduces his Wolverhampton form here.
Little Ted could do well given his consistent record at this venue, but BARLEY BROWN looks set to record its fifth win over C&D this year. He’s not always the easiest player, but Billy Loughnane is 2-2.
Barnaby is likely to make a bold attempt in his bid for a C&D hat-trick, especially after winning so well a week ago, while premier King’s School are also high on the list having had three of them under their belt , as a close second ahead of C&D last time.
However, a risk is taken ARANTES NASCIMENTOawarded the nursery on this map last year and suggested a return to form over 1m here last time. It seems like returning to 7f might suit.
Newcomer Tancredi has the pedigree and it will be interesting to see what the market thinks of him, though MY CLOUD is likely to be too good for these rivals, with the extra furlong likely to suit. The remaining three will probably still have a hard time in the company of beginners.
7:00 p.m. – Kitaab (NAP)
C&D winner Indivar and struggling Buzz Box make the shortlist but the vote goes KITAAB (nap), who won comfortably against C&D at the start of the month and did well to come so close at Kempton a week later. Fiscal policy, Moyola and Golden Duke are other factors to consider.
This looks particularly competitive, but TICKETS has found form again in the AW for his new farm and can prove that he is still treated well despite the punishment.
Ana Emaraaty chased him last week and should be dangerous despite the slight question about the new trip, but Fircombe Hall, who might have just needed a sharpener last time behind My Boy Jack and Shark Two and now has Billy Loughnane for the first time perhaps the greatest danger.
Although QUERCUS was a narrow winner against C&D two weeks ago, looked very comfortable on the surface and adding a hood seems to help.
Gunnerside has a lot in his favor compared to his current grade in his previous AW form, and although he hasn’t been tested on clay for 17 months, he looks like an obvious threat if he’s still operating on the surface. Noble Captain and Muddy Lynn are others to consider.
